Groups are an excellent place to learn new skills for managing anxiety at a reasonable price, as well as meet other young adults who understand what it is like to deal with anxiety. Group members in this group are encouraged to form supportive friendships both within and outside of the group.
Dr. Heather Leahy uses CBT and ACT to help those young adults coping with anxiety to find peace and calm so that they can go about their lives. She will teach you to calm your body using tools like diaphragmatic breathing and progressive muscle relaxation, soothe your mind by reevaluating some of the assumptions you make about yourself and your situation, and understand your emotions through a self-compassionate lens.
Connecting with others who have similar issues can also be very healing. When you are alone in your struggle, it is easy to think of yourself as somehow different or weird because of your anxiety. But when you connect to others who understand you, this reduces your sense of isolation and can even help you to feel more calm.
The group meets Saturday afternoons at 1:00 in our Dupont Circle office which is convenient to AU, GWU, and Georgetown.
The fee is $75 per one your group, and often much of this fee is reimbursable by insurance. Monarch doesn’t contract directly with insurance companies, but we will provide you with a statement that you can forward to them for this purpose.
