Hayley O’Brien, Lisenced Professional Counselor, is an empathic, passionate and caring therapist. She is also a yoga teacher, a unique perspective that allows her to focus acutely on the connection between body and mind.
Hayley helps people to have more calm and centeredness within themselves and more stability and connectedness in their relationships. She focuses on concrete skills such as grounding, diaphragmatic breathing, and interpersonal effectiveness and supports that work with an additional focus on attachment and safety in the therapeutic relationship.
Eating Disorders Treatment
Hayley works with you to deal with the symptoms of your eating disorder – the restriction, the binging and/or the purging, overexercising and constant body evaluation. Beyond that, she helps you to understand the emotional function that the eating disorder has played for you and helps you to find healthier ways to meet those needs. Often eating disorders are one piece within a larger picture that has to do with not liking yourself, not feeling competent and effective at other things, and not knowing how to get along with other people. Hayley understands this and she helps you to move beyong symptom reduction to true and deep healing.
Because eating disorders and trauma are often so inexorably intwined, Hayley has moved beyond her specialization in eating disorders to study the more global impact of trauma on the body and mind. She is able to work effectively with people whose trauma has caused them to have unsteady or unstable relationships, mood swings, numbness or self-harm. Hayley is currently offering a group for recovery-minded young adults struggling with eating disorders. Topics include dealing with body image, fighting back against the eating disorder “voice”, making treatment choices and finding freedom from food rules.
