Anna Allshouse, Clinical Intern

(she/her)

Anna Allshouse is a graduate student at McDaniel College, working towards her master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling. She is an engaged, compassionate, and supportive therapist, eager to assist clients on their journeys of healing and growth.

Eating Disorder & Therapy Experience

Anna has experience working in residential treatment for adolescents with eating disorders, which has developed her knowledge and understanding of best practices and treatment.

She has facilitated groups and worked individually with clients, drawing from Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and mindfulness-based approaches. Through this experience, she worked with a diverse group of adolescents, learning the importance of quality care and individualized treatment. She is passionate about her work with eating disorders, as well as each of her clients.

Health at Every Size (HAES)

She prioritizes a Health at Every Size (HAES) approach, creating a space that is open and accepting of people in all bodies. Through HAES, as well as All Foods Fit and intuitive eating models, she works collaboratively with each client to heal their relationships with food, movement, and themselves. Along the way, she utilizes personalized goal setting that matches individual needs and personal values.

Within her work, Anna pulls from client-centered and existential perspectives of therapy. Through existential therapy, she encourages clients to discover meaning and purpose in their experiences and helps them foster personal growth and self-awareness. Using enhanced self-awareness and authentic living, she guides clients in addressing the underlying issues contributing to their eating disorders.

By incorporating client-centered therapy, Anna places a strong emphasis on the therapeutic relationship. She believes in the inherent worth of every individual and provides unconditional positive regard, empathy, and genuine understanding. This client-centered approach empowers individuals to express themselves freely and fosters personal growth and self-acceptance.

Anna’s empathetic and optimistic nature makes her a valuable ally in the therapeutic journey, guiding clients toward greater self-awareness, resilience, and overall well-being.
