Therapy Approach

Mary Blair Holden believes in challenging her clients to be their best selves while offering them safety and support.

She works collaboratively and actively with clients to help them choose the best methods for them, drawing from CBT, ACT, family work, and experiential therapies.

Eating Disorders

Eating disorders rob you of your sense of safety and freedom. You can become very critical of yourself and others, judging food and exercise choices as if they were moral dilemmas. You can become anxious or even panicked about food, your body or your weight.  Or, you can ignore your relationship to food so completely that you don’t pay attention to whether you are providing yourself with healthy, nourishing foods.

Mary Blair specializes in working with people who have trouble regulating their relationship to food. This can include those with diagnosable eating disorders like anorexia, bulimia, binge eating disorder, orthorexia or ARFID. It can also mean people who don’t meet diagnostic criteria but who know they can feel more comfortable in their skin and relate with food in a healthier way.

Mary Blair can help you to find freedom from the critical voices that keep you trapped. She will work collaboratively and proactively with you to understand the way that you approach food and the reasons that you have trouble forming a healthy relationship.

She also offers help for adolescents and their families around these issues, helping every member of the family to feel supported and understood while making real and lasting changes.

Trauma

Trauma is defined as any event or series of events that overwhelms a person’s capacity to deal with it. Some traumas also cause you to lose trust in other people, have difficulty being close with others, or have unstable relationships.

Mary Blair is particularly adept at helping people to heal from these types of traumas, often referred to as “betrayal trauma” or “relational trauma”. If you have had significant problems in your ability to feel safe and secure with other people, particularly in childhood, this can affect your ability to feel confident in other relationships.

Mary Blair uses an approach rooted in attachment theory, CBT and DBT in order to help you to heal from trauma.

Mary Blair takes a relational approach to trauma, helping you to heal from the sense of betrayal and loss of trust that can accompany many traumas. Trauma reactions can include problems trusting other people, difficulty getting close to people, and problems in relationships.

Grief & Bereavement

Does it feel like life can never be the same again?  Are you struggling to cope without someone important to you?

Losing a loved one is never easy, but you do not have to go through this alone.  Mary Blair understands the terrain of grief and loss and can support you as you navigate your way.  She will help you to remember and honor the memory of your loved one as you rebuild your life with meaning, purpose, and joy.

Infertility/Subfertility Support

Have you been trying to conceive for some time now, and finding it harder than you had imagined?  Are you considering or have you done IUIs or IVF?  If so, you know how devastating every negative pregnancy test can be.

The process is an emotional roller-coaster and the treatment can be grueling.  Mary Blair utilizes a combination of ACT, mindfulness, and plain old support to help you make reproductive decisions from a place of calm and ease.

Pregnancy Loss

If you have lost a pregnancy, you need to work with somebody who understands the right questions to ask and the right things to say.  This time of life can be very vulnerable and it is normal to have a wide range of feelings, even anxiety, depression, or a trauma reaction.  However, you do not have to go through this alone.  Mary Blair will help you to feel contained, cared about, and safe as you mourn, remember, and heal.
